Completion of the Industry-academia
The Matching Program for Innovations in Future Drug Discovery and Medical Care, which started as a part of the national project, Creation of Innovation Centers for Advanced Interdisciplinary Research Areas, in 2006 has now completed its work.
Over this last decade Hokkaido University and five private companies have worked together here to conduct globally leading industry-academia joint research and develop an environment conducive to the research, with the mission of establishment of a drug discovery infrastructure to facilitate identification of promising candidates for drugs, and formulating proposals for noninvasive patient-centered medical care that reduces patient stress. In the course of this very extensive project, we have established the innovation centers for drug discovery and medical care as well as a platform that will strengthen the work of the project and support industry-academia joint research on the campus of Hokkaido University.
The environment for industry-academia joint research is changing with amazing rapidity. However, the basic essentials that enable research and development and form the basis for the creation of the new remains unchanged: dreams, hopes, and the enthusiasm of those involved working in an environment making the participants able to realize their goals.
We are delighted to have been able to create the “environment” where researchers from industry and academia working in creative harmony here in Hokkaido University with a spirit rooted in valuing practical science can discuss issues openly and devote themselves to innovative research and development.
Having received a wealth of useful advice and cooperation from many people over the last decade has enabled the past project to reach completion.
Finally, once again, we wish to express our gratitude to everyone for the generous support we have received and which has made it possible to achieve our long-term mission, unprecedented in the history of Hokkaido University, and succeed in establishing the center.
